In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s election, shares of bank stocks rose sharply as the market anticipated a loosening of regulations that will enhance bank’s ability to do business and earn profits. In addition to scaling back capital and other requirements, President-elect Trump is expected to replace the leaders of regulatory agencies with appointees who favor a freer hand for banks. And there are reports that Trump’s team is considering eliminating and/or combining some regulatory agencies. On the other hand, some industry watchers are skeptical that the financial industry will experience regulatory relief on the scale that is being discussed. How far will deregulation go? And how can banks be ready for related opportunities and challenges?
Join Oliver Wyman Partner Douglas Elliott, who has participated in and studied the industry as an investment banker, a fellow at The Brookings Institution, and a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, for this highly informative discussion.
