Stephanie Bontemps
Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer

Present Job Function: Bontemps is executive vice president and chief risk officer. As chief risk officer, she reports to the director’s risk committee and regularly interacts with the board. Similarly, she frequently interacts with the bank’s regulators during routine exams and targeted risk updates. As a corporate officer, she reviews and approves public financial filings including 10K, 10Q and proxy statements. She has extensive experience with executive and non-executive compensation plans, with focus on aligning incentives with performance and risk-taking. Bontemps was part of the management team leading the purchase of First Republic from Bank of America and subsequent IPO in 2010 as well as obtaining de novo bank FDIC deposit insurance. Taking a strategic and tactical approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance expectations is a top priority including assessing the impact of climate change and related risk management.
Previous Employment: In her 30-year banking career, Bontemps has held influential executive roles at a leading global bank as well as a mid-sized, rapidly growing wealth management bank. She excels at aligning risk-taking and risk-management using data-driven analytics and common sense. Intensive client focus has been a key driver in each role she has held. As a banking professional she has developed deep industry knowledge in technology, telecommunications, media, real estate, consumer products, private equity, venture capital, professional services, and nonprofits including the laws, regulations, and accounting rules applicable to each. As a risk executive she has broad experience across all risk types including operational risk, reputational, strategic, cybersecurity, emerging risks, and the intersection of risks. She is well versed in crisis management and business continuity planning for natural and man-made disasters.
Education: Bontemps earned an MBA in finance and accounting and a BA in economics from UCLA. She also participated in Authentic Leadership Development at the Harvard Business School Executive Education.
